World Bank offers FG $140m for community projects& development

The World Bank on Wednesday said it would soon start the disbursement of $140m under its assisted Community and Social Development Project to 26 states and the Federal Capital Territory.
The bank, in a statement issued in Abuja said about $200m (N39.4bn) had been disbursed under the first phase of the project, thus bringing the total amount provided under the programme to $340m.

Many Nigerian entertainers will be raving mad in asylums or rehabs in the next 10yrs - Ras Kimono

Reggae star, Ras Kimono says with the way young Nigerian artists drink and smoke, many of them will end up in asylums or rehabs in the next 10 years. He said this in an interview with The Nation“With the rate at which our young entertainers are abusing drugs, and alcohol, many of them will be raving mad, in asylums, or rehab in the next 10 years. I have never smoked ,nor drank alcohol in my over thirty years as a musician. There are a number of reggae musicians who do not abuse drugs, nor drink alcohol.”

Tinubu distance self from attacks on Fashola

Former Lagos state governor, Bola Tinubu has distanced himself from the recent attacks on former Lagos Governor, Raji Fashola. In a statement released from his media office today August 26th, Tinubu accused PDP of working towards causing a division in the APC after losing woefully in the last elections. He said no matter the devise used, APC will always surmount it. He went on to state that his hand and heart are not in any way connected to the recent attacks on the credibility of the Fashola-led administration. His statement in part reads;

Katsina Govt orders public teachers to withdraw their children from Private Schools


In a bid to revamp the education sector in the state, the Katsina State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) today directed primary school teachers and all head teachers in the state to withdraw their children from private schools for immediate enrollment in public schools.

While giving the directive, the chairman of the state SUBEB, Lawal Buhari Daura said the directive was in line with the state governor, Aminu Bello Masari's directive that public officers under his administration must ensure they make use public infrastructures including public schools. He however did not say whether or not defaulters of the directive will be penalized.

Come and join us, PDP appeals to Nigerians

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has appealed to Nigerians to come and join their party. The acting chairman of the opposition party, Prince Uche Secondus, made the appeal during the inauguration of the PDP E-Membership Registration Committee in Abuja today
“This occasion is significant to us as a party because it is a dream come true. You will recall that the idea of having an electronic membership registration for our party has been in the works for so many years.
In furtherance to this desire, we had refuted a constitutional amendment as reflected in section 8(11) of the PDP constitution and in August 2010, the National Executive Committee approved the policy. I’m appealing to all Nigerians to come and join us. There is room for everybody. Journalists here are also free to join us and become our members.”he said
